07/01/2010NB for all Australians in the UK
It is more important than ever that young Australians travelling to the UK on a Youth Mobility Scheme visa understand the change in legislation with regards to full-time work
Many Australians travelling to the UK are still unaware they can work full time for the full two years. Australians have traditionally moved to the UK to experience the UK on a temporary basis and instead spend more time travelling.
Australians previously moved to the UK using the Working Holidaymakers Scheme or as a highly-skilled migrant. This changed in November 2008, when UK Immigration replaced the holiday-making visa with the points-based immigration Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme system and changed the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme.
Australians can now come to the UK on the Youth Mobility Scheme for two years and work in a full-time capacity for the entire two years. OVC London assists Australians finding part-time and full-time work while in the UK.
Head administrator of the points-based system at the UK Border Agency, Jeremy Oppenheim said the changes allow Australians to benefit from a more “generous” system, as there are more options for those wishing to live in the UK.
While the system has been hailed as the way forward for UK immigration, there are reports that Australians are still suffering from negative effects of the ongoing set up of the new system’s administration.

Youth Mobility Scheme migrants are coming to the UK with a different attitude, as they are able to settle in and establish a more permanent way of life.
It’s a far better visa. It’s better for the candidate and better for administrators.
